Have you wondered about the old wood windows in your home? Maybe you’d like to know the names of all those different parts? What does it take to restore a window? This lecture-style class is a way for you to dip your toes into the complicated world of window restoration!

High level overview of the steps of fixing wood windows

Please note, this is an intro-level class aimed at getting you up to speed on the basics of wood windows, our next hands-on wood window intensive is in Spring 2020.

About the Facilitator:

Phil Mayo currently works as an independent contractor in Detroit, doing exterior restoration and maintenance, and restores windows in his spare time. A painter by trade, Phil has been involved in preservation trades since relocating to Detroit in 2015. He is a member of the National Association of Window Restoration Specialists and an affiliate of the Window Preservation Alliance. When he’s not making old things new, Phil enjoys running, reading and supporting Tottenham Hotspur.

About this Session:

This session is presented by Brick + Beam Detroit, in collaboration with Detroit Training Center and the City of Detroit’s Historic Preservation Division of the Planning and Development Department. In summer 2019 a group of preservation stakeholders including residents, practitioners, advocacy organizations, and realtors came together for the City’s first annual Historic Preservation Convening-- this event is a direct result of conversations elevating the need for more education opportunities around historic preservation and the trades.
